World Poker Tour
The World Poker Tour is a year round series of live poker tournaments held throughout the United States and in select locations throughout the world. With buy-ins ranging from $500 to $25,000, the World Poker Tour attracts many top professional tournament poker players who seek to win the large prize pools. The WPT Championship Event awards the champion several million dollars each year alongside instant fame and recognition as one of poker elite. The World Poker Tour competes with the World Series of Poker to be the top poker tour. The WPT and WSOP both air on television with the WPT normally airing on the Travel Channel. The WPT is run by WPT Enterprises.
Winning a World Poker Tour tournament is an accomplishment sought after by many of the greatest professional poker players for recognition, television exposure, and the large prize pools. Scotty Nguyen, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, and Barry Greenstein are a few of the notable famous poker players who have won a WPT tour tournament. Carlos Mortensen, Joe Bartholdi, Martin De Knijff, Alan Goehring and Tuan Le have all defined their careers by winning the WPT Championship where first place has paid between 1 million and 4 million dollars.
The World Poker Tour was founded in 2002 and its commissioner is Steven Lipscomb. The game is always No Limit Texas Holdem and the unofficial motto for the World Poker Tour is "May all your cards be live, and your pots be monsters".

World Poker Tour verse World Series of Poker
The WPT has continued to grow in popularity and the number of events being held each year. The prize pools have steadily increased as more and more participants play in each poker event. The World Poker Tour competes with the World Series of Poker and becoming a WPT Champion is almost as great an honor as winning a bracelet when you become a WSOP Champion. However, a WPT Championship will never equal becoming a World Series of Poker Main Event Champion which makes the winner a famous poker star and earns them a reputation as one of the games great players.
